Launch Exhibition for Maybach Asia

In 2000, Mercedes-Benz China undertook a special event to re-launch their sleek new marque, the Maybach. KplusK were hired to design a temporary demountable structure, to be built in the grounds of an exclusive bay fronted hotel, specially produced offsite in Oregon then shipped to HK for erection within a 2 week timeframe.

 

A series of interconnecting geodesic domes were constructed using PTFE Teflon coated translucent skins on interlinked geodesic steel structures of varying proportions. The lighting was designed so that the installation would emerge at night as a set of soft glowing cupola.  The domes were set on hollow plinths used to span the existing external water features; this also created a plenum for the air conditioning installation. KplusK also produced a bespoke exhibition system integrated into the overall design.
